OOG container shipping: common questions
What does OOG container shipping mean?
Out of gauge (OOG) cargo exceeds the standard container envelope in height, width or length. Flat-rack and open-top equipment provide options for suitable oversized cargo, subject to equipment, carrier and terminal limits.
Should I use a flat-rack or an open-top container?
The choice depends on the cargo dimensions, weight and loading method. Flat-racks provide an open platform; open-tops retain side walls and allow loading from above. Send us the cargo details and photographs so we can assess the suitable arrangement.
How is the cargo secured?
The arrangement can include lashing straps, wires or chains, together with timber dunnage and supports. The method depends on the cargo, container and carrier requirements. Loading and securing must be planned for the particular shipment.
What are the size and weight limits?
There is no single limit for every route. Container payload, cargo weight distribution, centre of gravity, overhang, terminal handling capability and carrier acceptance all affect the decision. We review these factors before confirming the equipment.
